Jamorama Guitar Lessons – How Does A Jamorama Lesson Work ?
Jamorama is a popular learn guitar course that can take a complete beginner to an intermediate or advanced level with a bit of effort and perseverance. So how do Jamorama guitar lessons work and can they really help you to learn guitar ?
There are around 32 lessons in the course. Each lesson is a separate PDF file of 10-15 pages. Each file has audio and video at various stages of the course to supplement the written course. Color diagrams and photos also illustrate the various components of the guitar.
Each lesson has an objective in mind and the lessons build on each other until you are playing songs. For example, the first lesson teaches you how to play the A and D major chords. As this is at the start of the course, it runs through many of the terms that you will have to get to know well as the course progresses. So you will be told all the names for various parts of the guitar. You will be told the very basics, like what is a chord or a note.
This is all good knowledge but I find it is very abstract unless you can actually do something. In order to learn the two chords in the first lesson, you are shown a diagram of where your fingers should go and how you should strum the guitar. Then you can view a video that shows someone doing this. If you watch it a few times you will know how to play the A or D chords. Then it is up to you to practice this skill until it becomes second nature.
Learning the basic skills can be a bit dull but they are essential if you really want to get accomplished at playing the guitar. The first 15 lessons are all about learning chords and follow the format detailed above. The use of video to show how chords should be played is a good teaching device.
There is also a section called jam tracks in some of the beginner lessons that is a complete tune or song that you are taught to play. This is a useful device to keep the motivation up or to help you see the woods from the trees so to speak.
The advanced lessons put a lot of the skills you learned in the first lessons together. So you will do exercises that involve playing chord progressions. The exercise is accompanied by a video so you can watch how it is done and follow the instruction.
Ultimately, the skills that you need to learn the guitar can be described and even shown to you, but the only way you will ever learn them is by playing them and practicing. Jamorama guitar lessons give you a good foundation and are well laid out, but only with effort and continued practice will you master the guitar.
